COLUMBUS, Ohio – Republican Nick Davis announced his State Representative candidacy for Ohio District 85 Monday.
Davis is a former Trump appointee seeking to fill a seat that will be vacated by Nino Vitale (R-Urbana) who will term out at the end of 2022. Representatives serve two-year terms and may serve no more than four consecutive terms – Vitale assumed office in 2015.
The Ohio Constitution requires that representatives and senators must reside in their respective districts one year preceding election unless absent on business of the United States or the State of Ohio. Davis is a lifelong resident of Logan County, Ohio.
“I am very excited to hopefully earn the opportunity to represent the people of this special part of Ohio. Having grown up here in west-central Ohio and served President Trump, I understand the values, but also the challenges, of this area. Our community is centered around faith, family, and friendship. We fight for what’s right and we take care of each other,” Davis stated in a press release.
Davis is the first to declare candidacy in the 85 District which is comprised of all of Champagne County, most of Logan County and part of Shelby County – including Sidney, Bellefontaine, Urbana, West Liberty and East Liberty.
According to his release Davis intends to focus on natural gas infrastructure in the area, making adoption for qualified families as easy and effective as possible, and providing more and better career technical education opportunities to students.
“As one of four adopted children in my family, adoption and being pro-life is the foundation of my family. Every child should be guaranteed the right to life and have the opportunity to live a fulfilling life,” Davis said.
The Republican candidate is a graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School and Ohio Hi-Point Career Center and Ohio State University. While at OSU, Davis founded a chapter of Students for Trump and grew it, he said, “to be one of the largest pro-Trump student groups in the country.”
He spent three years working with the Trump Administration.
Vitale ran unopposed in the 2020 Republican primary election for the 85th District seat and earned victory in the general election by winning 91.2% of the vote compared to Democratic write-in challenger Ted Greek who received 8.8%.
The 2022 primary election is set for May 3, 2022. The general election is slated for November 8.
